The weather is warming up and that can only mean one thing – Spring Racing Carnival is upon us. Some of the biggest events in a gentleman’s calendar, race days are a chance to suit up and show off your best style game.

The pinnacle in men’s racing fashion has to be Derby Day and there’s no better way to experience it than at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse. Every year, the most dapper dressers enter Fashions On The Field in the hopes of being dubbed the winner (and walking away with a huge haul of prizes). So if you’re in it to win it, we suggest starting with the latest collection from MR PORTER, the Kingsman: The Golden Circle range.

Named after the latest film from the Kingsman franchise, the bespoke range has a clear British influence with styles that would suit any secret agent. MR PORTER’s partnership with costume designer Ms Arianne Phillips means the looks have a bold, theatrical undertone – perfect for standing out on race day. We particularly love the double breasted jackets with wide peak lapels, premium cloth fabrication and handmade brogues.

We’ve pulled together our best Derby Day looks from MR PORTER’s Kingsman collection, to help you win that elusive sash.

Look 1 – Grey Double-Breasted Prince Of Wales Checked Suit

Derby Day Fashions On The Field calls for black, white or grey assembles. The past couple of winners have all worn shades of grey, so for our first look we chose the Prince Of Wales Checked Suit. This premium suit features a double breasted, peak lapel profile that exudes luxury. Be sure to give your suit a classic base with the double-cuff white shirt from Turnbull & Asser.

Although we’re all about keeping it simple, when it comes to competing in racing fashion, patterns can make all the difference. This suit features a hint of blue through the checked pattern which would pair perfectly with Derby Day’s signature cornflower blue floral. Tip: leave your flower lapel pin at home and find the real thing once you’re at Flemington.

Accessorising your outfit is an important part to FOTF, so we would recommend wearing a luxurious black silk tie by Tom Ford with classic tie clip and white pocket square. Finish off your look with a pair of black Oxford brogue shoes and you’re sure to steal the show trackside.

Look 2 – Charcoal Double-Breasted Chalk-Striped Suit

Another favourite for Derby Day is a charcoal suit. Classic and bold, twehis darker tone is reserved for the most dapper gents. The Kingsman design we’ve chosen for our second look features chalk striping, showcasing that all important attention to detail the judges are looking for.

We styled this suit again with a classic white shirt but played with subtle colour when it came to the tie. This navy Drake design features brown diagonal stripes, which compliment the pattern of the suit. This colour matching effort makes all the difference when competing in FOTF.

For this look we decided to take the accessories to the next level with an umbrella and statement hat. We simply couldn’t resist the Swaine Adeney Brigg umbrella with its chestnut wood handle. And the felt hat will look great worn on the crown of your head or tilted forward to one side. Adding too many accessories can start to look costumey, however the key is to keep them simple and within your outfit’s colour pallette.

So gents, it’s time to suit up and put your best look forward for this year’s Fashions On The Field competition. We think donning the above looks will give you a good shot at nabbing that sash. Good luck and see you on Derby Day!
