It’s always great to indulge yourself with new experiences and some relaxation to de-stress from life’s worries. So we packed our bags for a weekend getaway to Australia’s wine destination, staying at one of Adelaide’s most luxurious hotels The Playford, MGallery by Sofitel.
Stepping outside of Adelaide airport we were greeted with brrr, a cold 14 degrees gust of wind (thanks Adelaide). We made a dash for a taxi and at no time arrived at The Playford with a smiling gentleman helping us with our bags. Walking through the revolving doors and into the glamorous foyer, we were greeted with a complimentary cup of Italian hot chocolate. From the moment you walk in, you experience the classic luxury atmosphere with rich tones, gold accents, and European designs.
We booked the Premium North Terrace Studio with Spa as these rooms are renowned for their great views and of course their huge spa baths. Upon entering the room we were immediately impressed with the generous size of the accommodation and wide balcony framed by gold patterned curtains. Stepping outside, we took in the picturesque northern views of Adelaide’s city centre and beyond. The gold themes continued throughout our room, leading into the bedroom which was cleverly separated by dual sliding doors. The artwork in the space featured some of Adelaide’s most iconic landmarks, which was a nice touch.
Enjoying our respite from the cold weather outside, we thought we would make the most of the facilities so we headed to the gym, dipped into the spa, and then relaxed in the sauna. After (probably too much) time well spent in our robes, we finally ventured outside to explore the CBD. The location of The Playford is on the north side of the city, just across from the Convention Centre and central train station with the tram line right outside your door. It’s only a few steps to Hindley street (food district) and a two minute walk to Rundle Mall (main shopping hub).
Adelaide is well known for its wine and hospitality, so in the evening we visited Hardy’s Veranda Restaurant in Mt Lofty (review coming soon) for a delicious 9 course degustation with wine pairing. After a few hours of fine dining, we returned to back to the hotel for a night’s sleep in the most comfortable king size bed we have ever experienced. Feeling well rested the next morning, we popped down to the restaurant excited to see what was for breakfast at the buffet. From custom muesli varieties and freshly squeezed juices, to the gourmet hot breakfast options and sweet dessert and fruit selection; we were spoilt for choice. It was great to see a lot of local produce and ingredients used (we loved the Kangaroo Island organic honey). Do yourself a favour and be sure to experience the breakfast buffet when staying at the Playford.
We were more than satisfied with our luxury experience at The Playford and would stay there once again when visiting Adelaide for another weekend getaway.
