The fourth edition of the Van Heusen Mentors – Secrets of Success went underway with a remarkable panel of Australia’s most accomplished sportsmen and entrepreneurs. The night started off at Long Song Bar in Melbourne CBD, with an eager crowd ready to be inspired by the stories and journeys of these influential men.

We were lucky enough to be invited and dressed by Van Heusen for the event. Backstage, celebrity fashion stylist Jamie Azzopardi and Rebecca James worked their magic styling all the mentors, media and influencers in Van Heusen suits. The outfit we chose for the night was a classic navy suit, paired with a fitted check shirt and essential accessories. To keep everyone backstage looking fresh for showtime, barbers from the Kings Domain were on hand providing haircuts and hair styling. It was great to meet and mingle with all the mentors including Hawthorn’s AFL star Cyril Rioli, Olympic medalist Scotty James, leading tech entrepreneur Stuart B Richardson and refugee turned Melbourne Victory A-League soccer player Besart Berisha.

“You want to show people how much hard work goes into your career. You need to think about how people are going to react and how you project yourself,“
 Stuart B Richardson.

“Never forget where you come from. I grew up in the Tiwi Islands with a community of 1800 people. I just wanted to play footy like my dad and for me, it’s important to go back and continue to help influence the younger generation,”
said Cyril Rioli.

“Winning my first Olympic medal and representing Australia for the third time is a huge thrill – but to be honest, I feel like I’m just getting started. As a Mentor I hope to lead by example, inspire others and continually seek excellence.”
Scotty James.

The night was undoubtedly a success with the crowd joining into the conversation, asking questions and sharing a few laughs. After the mentor session, everyone was invited to drinks and encouraged to join a cocktail master class guided by the Long Song bartenders.

The Van Heusen Menswear Mentors Campaign launched in August 2016, empowering Australian men to look and feel good. The mentors featured a range of industries. By sharing their stories, they hope to encourage and inspire Australian men to be the best they can be.
