Looking to escape Bali’s bustling cities? Nusa Lembongan is a mere 30-minute boat ride away and offers white sand, turquoise blue water and a more relaxed pace. The ultimate way to enjoy this tropical paradise is from The Tamarind Resort, one of the island’s best places to stay.
Having just spent a week in two of Bali’s busiest towns (Seminyak and Canggu), we were eager to unwind. We settled on Nusa Lembongan for its conveniently close distance to Bali. After arriving by boat to the island we were greeted by a friendly member of staff waiting to escort us to The Tamarind. A short 5-minute buggy ride up the road and we were welcomed by the infamous tamarind tree which gave the resort its namesake.
The Tamarind Resort overlooks Jungut Batu Bay with excellent views of Mt. Agung. The resort’s elevated location provides a peaceful and quiet setting that is still within walking distance of the beach as well as a number of cafes and restaurants.
We stayed in the Candrika Suite, a spacious room with fresh decor and modern amenities. The Tamarind Resort also offers Villas for those staying in larger groups. Although our room was beautiful, most of our time was spent enjoying the hotel’s various pools.
Located just outside the restaurant, the main infinity pool delivers stunning views of Mount Agung and the 300-year-old tamarind tree. We recommend getting up early to enjoy a floating breakfast here before other guests wake.
The hotel boasts a further two pools including our favourite – the Villa infinity pool. Situated at the top of the resort complex, the Villa infinity pool boasts the best views of the mesmerising ocean and mountainscape. Equipped with its own bar, this is a great spot to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail.
We often ate meals by the pool courtesy of Indica restaurant. On the menu is a range of well-known international favourites, local delicacies and tropical delights. Inspired by our environment, we indulged in a lot of fresh seafood and smoothies.
During our time on Nusa Lembongan we made sure to see a few of the main tourist spots; Devil’s Tear, Angel’s Beach and the iconic Yellow Bridge. If you’ve got time, a half day trip to neighbouring Nusa Ceningan is a worthwhile experience. The resort offers a variety of guided tours ensuring you see the best of the island and its surrounds no matter your schedule. We were hoping to try the full day tour of nearby Nusa Penida but will need to save that one for our next visit! If taking it easy is more your thing The Tamarind also boasts a range of spa treatments.
Our short but sweet island escape left us feeling rejuvenated and ready to continue our travel adventures. Special thanks to The Tamarind Resort for our relaxing stay; we hope to be back soon!
