We’re used to staying in little more than a shoebox when travelling in big cities, so it’s always refreshing to enjoy a lofty abode away from home. Our current Sydney go-to for generous accommodation is Zara Tower, located in Surry Hills.
On our most recent trip to this inner city destination, we were able to experience the two different room styles on offer; the Luxury Soho suites (aptly named for their New York loft style interiors), and the classic apartments that make you feel like you’re right at home.
If you’re travelling on your own or as a couple, we can’t recommend enough the Luxury Soho Suites. These expansive spaces leave you a bit awestruck, wondering what you should do with so much room. We spent a lot downtime sitting on the leather lounge, cosy under a faux fur blanket and flicking through Netflix. This experience has convinced us that every hotel room should be equipped with this important facility.
For aspiring master-chefs, there is a full kitchen stocked with everything you need to make a stellar meal. This is a real asset for longer stays when you can’t afford to eat out every night. However since we were only there for a few days, we frequented China Town on the daily – it’s only five minutes walk from the hotel. Side note: a must-do when you’re in the harbour city is to visit Emperor’s Puffs. Don’t let the line put you off, it’s moves quick and the reward is so delicious. Bring cash, but no more than a fiver is needed for 18 mouthwatering cream puffs (yes, 18. Trust us, you’ll want them all).
With a full belly, you’ll be keen to crash on the king-sized bed adorned with your pillow type of choice. The bedroom is sectioned off by curtains, which look beautiful and provide the perfect romantic getaway vibe. If you’re looking for a little more privacy though, it’s best to stay in the two or three bedroom apartment options. These are ideal for when travelling with friends, family, colleagues or other couples.
The second half of our stay was in one of Zara Tower’s two bedroom apartments. These full-sized spaces offer an abundance of room whilst providing separate bedrooms. The layout is super functional and you really get that ‘home away from home’ feeling when staying there. Also if you love having a balcony, then the apartments are a must for great views of Surry Hills and surrounds.
The hotel is situated on the fringe of the CBD and especially close to one of favourite coffee spots, Single O. We suggest having your brunch and brews here one morning, then taking a quick 10min walk to World Square for some retail therapy. Or if you end up staying in watching Netflix and eating cream puffs, we won’t judge you…there is a gym on site though if you want to get moving.
