With an atmosphere similar to the races, a day at the polo is the perfect opportunity to share the joy with friends. We were lucky enough to experience Brisbane’s Polo in the City event up close in the Somersby Polo Lounge. Positioned right on the sideline, our VIP spot boasted a fantastic vantage point to take in all the action as well as free flowing Somersby ciders. My personal favourite was the pear cider – perfect for a warm summer’s day.

On arrival, we took a few happy snaps at the #sharesomersby installation – a fun swing set up complete with a mallet for posing purposes. The whole area was perfect for photo ops, with endless greenery and sunny skies playing to our favour. With the sun came the heat, so we soon took shelter under the Somersby umbrellas and grabbed a quick (and delicious) bite. A burger always tastes better washed down with Cider!

After watching the first match we took a quick behind the scenes tour, meeting some of the players and seeing the horses close up. We then quickly dashed back to the event’s centre where Fashions on the Field was kicking off. First up were the women with a clear themes of white and lace on display. Then it was the men’s turn to take the stage. I had zero expectations so was pleasantly surprised to hear my name called for first place. Can’t wait to spend my prize voucher on some new suiting – thanks to Politix Menswear! A bottle of champagne by Pol Roger was a nice treat also 😉

For my winning outfit, I created a relaxed preppy look by keeping my colour palette light and classic, rolling up the hems on both the jacket and pants, leaving my shirt undone at the neck and wearing boat shoes. I chose a crisp white shirt and jeans as the base, paired with a light grey blazer complete with lapel pin. To add personality, I chose to inject brown tones with my pocket square, belt, watch, sunglasses and footwear detailing. Style tip: make sure you don’t get races fashion mixed up with polo fashion. The main difference is that polo fashion is more laid back; there’s no need for a tie, so lock up that three piece suit! Mixing colours is important as well the choice of shoes, we would recommend loafers or boat shoes.

The rest of the afternoon was well spent watching another match, sipping ciders and having a great time with friends.

Thanks @SomersbyAustralia for having us at the Somersby Polo Lounge
